Ardtornish Castle

Ardtornish Castle, located on the Morvern Peninsula in the Scottish Highlands, is a site steeped in history dating back to the 13th century. Originally constructed by the powerful Clan MacInnes, the castle later became a significant stronghold for the Lords of the Isles, a title held by the MacDonald clan. In the 15th century, Ardtornish Castle was the setting for the Treaty of Ardtornish-Westminster, an ambitious but ultimately unsuccessful plan by John MacDonald, the Lord of the Isles, to ally with Edward IV of England against the Scottish Crown. Over time, the castle fell into disuse and ruin, particularly after the forfeiture of the Lordship of the Isles in 1493.
