About Balmoral Castle
The Scottish residence of the British Royal Family, built in baronial style in 1856.
History of Balmoral Castle
Balmoral Castle was commissioned by Prince Albert and Queen Victoria in 1856, replacing a 15th-century castle on the same site. Designed in Scottish Baronial style, it became the beloved Highland retreat of the Royal Family and remains a private residence of the monarch. The castle and its extensive estate on Royal Deeside represent one of the finest examples of Victorian romantic interpretation of Scottish castle architecture, combining modern comfort with traditional Highland grandeur.
