About Braemar Castle
A 17th-century tower house in Braemar, owned by the Farquharsons and famous for Highland Games.
History of Braemar Castle
Built in the 17th century, Braemar Castle was constructed as a hunting lodge by the Earl of Mar but later became associated with the Farquharson clan. The castle played a role in the Jacobite uprisings and was garrisoned by government troops. Today it sits prominently near the famous Braemar Highland Games ground and serves as a well-preserved example of a Highland tower house. It is owned by the Farquharsons of Invercauld and managed by Braemar Community Ltd.
