Castle Forbes

Castle Forbes, located approximately three miles north-east of Alford in Aberdeenshire, is a Baronial mansion built in 1815. Despite its relatively recent construction compared to other Scottish castles, it holds historical significance due to its location on the site of the former Putachie Castle. The original structure, Putachie Castle, has not left behind substantial historical records, but its presence points to the site's longstanding importance. The current Castle Forbes was commissioned by the Forbes family, a prominent Scottish clan, and it remains under the ownership of the Clan Chief. The Forbes family has played a significant role in the region's history, and their continued residence at the castle underscores their enduring legacy. The castle has been restored and maintained in good condition, reflecting its historical and architectural value.
