Cawdor Castle

Cawdor Castle, located near the village of Cawdor in the Scottish Highlands, dates back to the late 14th century. It was originally constructed as a fortified tower house by the Thanes of Cawdor, a title granted by the Scottish crown. The castle is famously linked to Shakespeare's 'Macbeth', although the historical King Macbeth lived centuries before its construction. Over the years, Cawdor Castle has undergone numerous expansions and renovations, transforming it into the picturesque estate seen today. Notably, the castle is built around a holly tree, which, according to legend, was chosen by the original builder as the site for the castle after a donkey carrying gold lay down under it. In the 17th century, the Campbell family acquired the castle, and it remains in their possession to this day.
