About Craigievar Castle

A magnificent pink tower house completed in 1626, famous for its fairy-tale appearance.

History of Craigievar Castle

Craigievar Castle is one of Scotland's most photographed castles, completed in 1626 by the Forbes family. This stunning seven-story tower house exemplifies the Scottish Baronial style with its distinctive pink harled walls, elaborate turrets, and decorative corbelling. The interior features exceptional 17th-century decorative plasterwork. Now owned by the National Trust for Scotland, Craigievar represents the pinnacle of Scottish castle architecture during the peaceful period when defense was less important than comfort and display.
