Culzean Castle

Culzean Castle, a grand example of Scottish baronial architecture, was originally a fortified tower house built in the late 16th century for the Kennedy family, the Earls of Cassillis. In the late 18th century, the 10th Earl commissioned renowned architect Robert Adam to transform the fortress into a luxurious country house. In 1945, the Kennedy family gifted Culzean Castle and its estate to the National Trust for Scotland, with the stipulation that the top floor be given to General Dwight D.
