History of Fincharn Castle
Fincharn Castle occupies a rocky promontory close to the village of Ford on the southern bank of Loch Awe. Also known as Fionchairn Castle, it started life in the mid-1200s as a hall-house which would become a tower house over the next few centuries. The earliest structure to stand here was built by the Clan MacDougal who would side with the English during the Scottish Wars of Independence, and so, would ultimately forfeit.
