History of Finlarig Castle
The remains of Finlairig Castle stand on a small wooded hill sandwiched between Loch Tay and the River Lochay just north of the village of Killin in Stirlingshire. The lands here were the property of the Clan Menzies but passed to the Clan Campbell. The Castle was built by Black Duncan Campbell, also known as Black Duncan of the Castles in the 1620s. Black Duncan died in 1631 and is buried in the mausoleum next to the castle. Finlairg Castle was built in the 1620s. The graves next to the castle are those of Sir Gavin Campbell, who died in 1922, and the other for his wife, Alma Graham, who died 10 years later in 1932; they have a handsome resting place.
