About Finlaystone Castle

Finlaystone Castle is a mansion with 14th-century origins, now an events venue.

History of Finlaystone Castle

Finlaystone Castle (House) stands in its own grounds just to the east of Port Glasgow. The building we see today dates from the mid-1700s but incorporates a much earlier tower house owned by the Cunningham's in the early 1400s. Reformer John Knox preached here in 1556 and the poet, Robert Burns was a frequent visitor. Today the house is at the centre of the Finlaystone Country estate; the gardens are open to the public and the house is available for weddings and events.
