About Fordyce Castle
Fordyce Castle stands in a handsome conservation village in Aberdeenshire.
History of Fordyce Castle
The handsome Fordyce Castle stands in the middle of the equally handsome conservation village of the same name. The castle dates from 1592 but the village has its origins in the 7th century and the church adjacent to the castle dates from 1272. The castle was built a Thomas Menzies of Durn on land which was previously the property of the Clan Dunbar. The castle was extended in about 1700. The castle passed to the Clan Ogilvy but in 1716, parts of the castle were used as the village school up until 1789. The castle's condition deteriorated but thankfully, it has now been restored.
