About Forglen House

Forglen House is a mansion offering holiday accommodation in Aberdeenshire.

History of Forglen House

Forglen House stands in extensive grounds a couple of miles north-west of the handsome town of Turriff in Aberdeenshire. The lands were given to Arbroath Abbey by King William the Lion in the early 1200s. The first castle to be built here is believed to date from the mid-1300s but evidence of this very fortification is slight. The Clan Irvine seem to be the builders of the first recorded castle, probably constructed in the mid-1400s. The building continued to evolve under the ownerships of the Clans Ogilvy, Urquhart and Abernethy. Sir John Abernethy is responsible for the house as it stands today and it was designed in 1839 by Aberdeen Architect, John Smith. The Abernethys sold the estate in 1974. Private. The estate offers a range of holliday accommodation. Tel: 07708 606003 E: reservations@forglen.co.uk
