History of Frendraugh House
Frendraught Castle stands in extensive grounds about 6 miles east of the lovely Aberdeenshire town of Huntly. The castle is believed to date from 1656 but a date stone above a small door has 1688. However, whatever the true date of the current building, there has been a fortification on this site since 1203. The original castle was torched in one of the never-ending tit-for-tat feuds in 1630, but eventual repaired and later extended. The castle was the property of the Clan Crichton for around 400 years before passing to the Clan Morrison in the 1690s. The castle is still occupied and the estate offers a range of outdoor activities.
