About Fyvie Castle
Fyvie Castle has five distinct towers and numerous ghost stories, now managed by National Trust.
History of Fyvie Castle
There has been a castle on this site from at least the 1200s. It's thought that the first castle here was built by King William the Lion in 1211, but most of what we see today was built in the 14th and 15th centuries. Fyvie was originally a royal stronghold; King William the Lion and King Alexander II both held court here and are mere Kings King Robert the Bruce and Edward I of England also stayed here, Edward in 1296 and Bruce one year after Edward's death in 1308. Each of the families that owned Fyvie put their own stamp on the building in the form of a tower. The castle is made up of five distinct towers. Alexander Seton greatly enlarged the castle after he purchased it in 1596. There are many ghost stories relating to Fyvie Castle, too numerous to list here, but the castle has been in the care of the National Trust for Scotland since 1982 so why not visit and decide for yourself if any of them are true?
