About Galdennoch Castle
Galdenoch Castle is a ruined 15th-century L-plan tower house near Leswalt.
History of Galdennoch Castle
Galdenoch Castle stands about a mile west of Lochnaw just north of Galdenoch Moor. The castle is a three-storey L-plan tower house built in the mid-1500s by Gilbert Agnew of Lochnaw. The Agnews of Galdenoch were committed Covenanters for which they were given huge fines; in 1635, a fine of £1000 bankrupted the family and the estates were absorbed into the holdings of the Agnews of Lochnaw after which Galdenoch Castle was abandoned. The castle is not open to the public but holiday accommodation is available nearby.
