About Gamelscleuch Tower

Gamelscleuch Tower ruins stand in Ettrick, built in 1570 by Clan Scott.

History of Gamelscleuch Tower

The remains of Gamelscleuch Tower can be found on the edge of Gamelscleuch Wood about a half-mile north-east of the village of Ettrick in the Scottish Borders. This once strong tower was constructed by the Clan Scott in 1570 when King James VI granted a charter to Symon Scott after the lands were fortified by the Scotts of Tushielaw. Symon never got to enjoy the tower he had built as he was poisoned by his stepmother on the eve of his marriage. Game of Thrones is positivity tame compared with the Scottish Borders.
