About Gamelshiel Castle

Gamelshiel Tower ruins stand north of Whiteadder Reservoir in East Lothian.

History of Gamelshiel Castle

The scant remains of Gamelshiel Tower stand just to the north of the Whiteadder Reservoir in East Lothian. The tower dates from the about the 16th century but could easily be earlier. The tower was home to the Clan Forest but passed to the Clan Home in the mid-1600s. Tip: Bring your walking boots. This area is littered with castles and prehistoric hill forts and Yester Castle (see that entry) is only a few miles from here.
