About Invermark Castle
A 16th-century tower house in the remote Glen Mark, built by the Lindsays.
History of Invermark Castle
Built in 1526 by the Lindsay family, Invermark Castle stands in the remote and beautiful Glen Mark in the Angus Glens. This tower house served as a hunting lodge and summer retreat for the powerful Lindsay family, Earls of Crawford. Though now ruined, the castle's remote Highland setting demonstrates how Scottish noble families maintained residences throughout their territories. The castle's location in Glen Mark, surrounded by dramatic Highland scenery, makes it one of the most romantically situated ruins in Angus, representing the connection between Scottish castle building and the natural landscape.
