Old Slains Castle

Old Slains Castle, located near Colliston in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, dates back to the 13th century. Originally constructed by the powerful Comyn family, the castle played a pivotal role in Scotland's medieval history. It was later acquired by the Hay family, who became the Earls of Erroll. The castle witnessed significant events, including the Wars of Scottish Independence, during which it was partially destroyed. In the late 16th century, the castle was rebuilt by Francis Hay, 9th Earl of Erroll, but its prominence was short-lived. In 1594, King James VI ordered its destruction following the Earl's involvement in the Catholic rebellion.
