Pitsligo Castle

Pitsligo Castle, located near the coastal village of Rosehearty in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, dates back to the early 15th century. Originally constructed by the Fraser family, the castle became the seat of the Forbes family in the 16th century when Sir William Forbes acquired it. The castle played a notable role during the Jacobite risings, particularly in the 1745 uprising, when Alexander Forbes, the 4th Lord Pitsligo, supported Bonnie Prince Charlie. Following the defeat of the Jacobites, the castle was partially dismantled and fell into disrepair as Forbes faced repercussions for his involvement. Today, Pitsligo Castle stands as a romantic ruin, with its remaining structures offering a glimpse into its storied past. The castle's remnants, including parts of the tower house and courtyard, are surrounded by picturesque landscapes, attracting history enthusiasts and tourists alike.
