About Sauchie Tower

A well-preserved 15th-century tower house managed by Clackmannanshire Heritage Trust.

History of Sauchie Tower

Built in the 15th century, Sauchie Tower is a remarkably well-preserved example of a Scottish tower house that demonstrates the architectural transition from medieval fortress to comfortable residence. The tower was built by the Shaw family, who later became connected with various branches of Scottish nobility. Its excellent state of preservation makes it an important example of 15th-century Scottish domestic architecture. Currently managed by Clackmannanshire Heritage Trust, the tower represents community efforts to preserve local heritage while educating visitors about medieval Scottish life and architecture. Though currently empty, it remains a significant monument to Scotland's castle-building heritage.
